MetLife Stadium
Project Context
MetLife Stadium is a 2.1-million-square-foot, 82,500-seat open-air stadium located at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Completed in 2010 at a cost of $1.6 billion, it was the most expensive stadium ever built in the United States at the time. The facility serves as the shared home of the New York Giants and New York Jets of the NFL.
The stadium was delivered under a design-build contract led by Skanska, with architectural design by 360 Architecture (now HOK), EwingCole, Rockwell Group, and Bruce Mau Design. Structural engineering was provided by Thornton Tomasetti. The project was completed five months ahead of schedule and within budget, setting new benchmarks for large-venue construction planning and execution.
MetLife Stadium replaced the original Giants Stadium on the same Meadowlands site, incorporating 40,000 tons of recycled steel from the demolished facility. The stadium was named the NFL's 'Greenest Stadium' by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, with 83% of construction waste recycled. It will host the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final — the first time the World Cup Final will be played in the United States.

Delivery Challenge
The development of MetLife Stadium required the construction of a world-class sports venue on an active site adjacent to the existing Giants Stadium, which continued to operate throughout the build. The project demanded coordination across a massive design-build program while meeting the distinct identity requirements of two NFL franchises sharing a single facility.
- Constructing a 2.1-million-square-foot stadium adjacent to an active, operational venue
- Balancing the distinct brand identities of two NFL franchises within a single neutral facility
- Coordinating a design-build delivery with over 17,000 structural steel pieces and 4.5 million labor hours
- Integrating 40,000 tons of recycled steel from the demolished Giants Stadium into the new structure
- Managing schedule and budget through the 2008 financial recession without delay or cost overrun
- Achieving sustainability targets including 83% construction waste recycling
Owner-Side Advisory Role
Landmark Logix provided owner representation and project coordination services supporting the delivery of MetLife Stadium, helping ensure alignment between ownership groups, design-build teams, and project stakeholders throughout the construction process.
