St. Johns Golf & Country Club
Project Context
St. Johns Golf & Country Club is an 18-hole championship golf community located in St. Johns County, Florida, between Jacksonville and St. Augustine. Developed by Arvida/St. Joe on approximately 820 acres, the community was planned to include 799 homes alongside a championship golf course, clubhouse, amenity center, and supporting facilities — all opening in 2001.
The golf course was designed by renowned architect Clyde Johnston and opened for play in June 2001. The project encompassed a full campus of community facilities delivered simultaneously: a Mediterranean-influenced golf clubhouse serving as the community's social heart, a separate amenity and fitness center, and a 10,500-square-foot golf maintenance facility with fuel capabilities — all three built by WGPITTS under a design-build contract on behalf of the St. Joe Company.
The clubhouse was designed to create a warm, welcoming environment for residents and guests. Positioned overlooking the golf course and a large lake bordered by woods, it featured a Mediterranean-influenced architectural character with wood floors, wood-beamed ceilings, a handcrafted wood and granite bar, and a stone fireplace. The community has grown into a well-established northeast Florida golf destination, later hosting the PGA TOUR Qualifying School multiple times.

Delivery Challenge
The original construction of St. Johns Golf & Country Club required the coordinated delivery of an entire community campus — golf course, clubhouse, amenity center, and maintenance facility — within a master-planned development on 820 acres of St. Johns County terrain.
- Delivering three distinct buildings (clubhouse, amenity/fitness center, and golf maintenance facility) under a unified design-build scope
- Establishing a Mediterranean-influenced architectural character that integrated naturally with the wooded, lakeside landscape
- Coordinating the simultaneous opening of all community facilities with the June 2001 golf course debut
- Creating hospitality-quality interior environments within a community clubhouse setting — wood floors, beamed ceilings, stone fireplace, custom millwork bar
- Integrating lush landscaping and site design to connect the clubhouse visually to the golf course and lakefront
- Supporting the master developer's vision for a fully operational, amenity-rich community at launch
